In this article we will give you some step-by-step instructions on how to make a cool pinata without much effort. Pick your favorite idea and delight your child with this creative DIY gift!
A Pinata (also Piñata) is a colorfully decorated figure made of cardboard or papier-mâché filled with various sweets, gifts, confetti and good wishes. She is usually hanged and the children have to smash her with a stick. Pinata is a traditional game played on children's birthday parties in Latin America and Spain. But it is also very popular in other countries.
Pinata tinker: Pinata cloud
Materials:
- cardboard
- white crepe paper stripes
- colorful paper
- colorful bows
- rope
- scissors
- cutter
- Glue
- pencil
- Candies of your choice (candies, lollipop, etc.), confetti etc.
- Draw two identical cloud figures on the cardboard and cut them with the cutter.
- Now cut a long piece of cardboard, which you will later use for the edges of the cloud.
- Stick the long piece of cardboard to one of the cloud figures and fill the pinata with sweets.
- Make two small holes in the top of the cloud and pull the rope through it.
- Now attach all the pieces so that you reach the shape shown above.
- After the foundation is ready, you can start with the decoration. Take two crepe paper strips and cut 1 cm long perpendicular lines (as shown in the picture above). Cut the lines to about 2 cm below the top edge.
- Cover the whole cloud with crepe paper strips (from bottom to top).
- Cut the eyes and mouth of the cloud of colored paper and stick it to the cloud.
- Lastly, attach some colorful ribbons to the bottom of the cloud.
Pinata tinker: birthday cake pinata
Materials:
- cardboard
- colorful crepe paper stripes
- 3 straws
- thread
- Glue
- Hot glue gun
- awl
- scissors
- Candies of your choice (candies, lollipop, etc.), confetti etc.
- First, cut two similar rectangles, one square and two similar triangles with a curved side.
- Glue the two rectangles to the longer sides of the two triangles so that you get the shape shown above.
- With the help of the awl make a small hole in the middle of the two triangles. Take a long double piece of thread and pull it through the holes. This will be the hanger of your Pinata. Make a knot and make sure it's big enough and will not slip through the hole. For more stability, glue the thread to the cardboard with the hot glue gun.
- Fill your pinata with sweets.
- Now fix the square and the foundation is ready.
- Take two crepe paper strips and cut 1 cm long perpendicular lines (as shown in the picture above). Cut the lines to about 2 cm below the top edge.
- Cover the whole piece of cake with crepe paper strips.
- Cut small square pieces of crepe paper in different colors and glue it all over the cake.
- Next, make the candle. Here's how it works: Take a straw and stick it to the pinata hanger. Then stick the three straws together so that the hanger is in the middle.
- Now decorate the candle with crepe paper strips and stick it in the middle of the cake.
Making Pinata: Pinata eggs
Materials:
- balloon
- 1 cup of flour
- 1 cup of water
- bowl
- Crepe paper strip

- Hot glue gun
- Rope for hanging the Pinata

- Fill the balloon with candy (preferably sweets) and blow it up.
- Mince the newspaper.
- Put in the bowl the water and the flour and stir well.
- Cover the balloon with pieces of newspaper that are first dipped in the mixture of flour and water.
- Let the balloon dry for 24 hours. If necessary, cover the balloon again with newspaper.
- Prick the balloon with a needle.
- Make two small holes at the top of the ice and pull the rope through it.
- Now decorate your Pinata. Here's how it works: Take two crepe paper strips and cut perpendicular lines (as shown in the picture above). Cut the lines to about 2 cm below the top edge.
- Cover your egg with crepe paper strips (from bottom to top).
Make ice cream pinata
Materials:
- 1 balloon
- 1 cup of flour
- 1 cup of water
- 1 bowl

- Blow up the balloon.

- Prick the balloon with a needle and carefully cut the upper part of the paper mesh.
- Make a bag of colored paper.
- Fill the bag with sweets and glue them to the paper mesh.
- Now also cover the bag with newspaper, which is initially dipped in the mixture of water and flour, and let the paper mesh dry for another 24 hours.
- Take two crepe paper strips and cut perpendicular lines (as shown in the picture above). Cut the lines to about 2 cm below the top edge.
- Cover the whole ice cream with crepe paper strips, starting from the top of the bag.
Square mini pinata from tissue box
Materials:
- Tissue box
- colorful crepe paper stripes
- Silk bows in different colors
- Glue
- scissors
- Candies of your choice (candies, lollipop, etc.), confetti etc.
- Take all the silk loops (except one) and make a knot in their midst.
- Take the last silk bow and knot your ends together so that you make a hanger.
- Use the scissors to make a hole in one corner of the box and a hole in the opposite corner.
- Now pull the silk loops through the hole below. Pull the hanger through the hole above. Make sure the knots are big enough and will not slip through the holes.
- Fill the box with the selected sweets and cover them with paper so that the sweets do not fall off it.
- Take two crepe paper strips and cut perpendicular lines (as shown in the picture above). Cut the lines to about 2 cm below the top edge.
- Cover the box with the crepe paper strips (from bottom to top).
- Let the glue dry out a bit and your cool mini pinata is ready!
Making Pinata: Pinata Cat
Materials:
- cardboard
- Glue
- pink crepe paper stripes
- pink, white and black paper
- scissors
- Rope for hanging
- pencil
- cutter
- Candies of your choice (candies, lollipop, etc.), confetti etc.
- Draw two identical cat shapes on the cardboard and cut them with the cutter (the cat shape can be made very easily by first drawing a circle and then two triangles for the ears).
- Cut a long piece of cardboard to shape the edges of the cat.
- Stick one of the cat shapes to the long piece of cardboard and fill the pinata with sweets.
- Now attach the other cat shape so that you reach the shape shown above.
- Make two holes between the ears of the cat and tie rope to hang.
- Take two crepe paper strips and cut 1 cm (as shown in the picture above) perpendicular lines. Cut the lines to about 2 cm below the top edge.
- Cover the whole pinata with crepe paper strips.
- Finally, cut the cat's nose, ears and twine from paper and glue it to the pinata.
Making Pinata: Pinata fish
Materials:

- black paper
- colorful bows
- balloon
- 1 cup of flour
- 1 cup of water

- scissors
- Glue
- Candies of your choice (candies, lollipop, etc.), confetti etc.
- Blow up the balloon.
- Mince the newspaper pages.
- Draw the fishtail and the fins on the cardboard and cut them. Stick it to the balloon.
- Put the water and the flour in a bowl and stir well.
- Cover the balloon with pieces of newspaper that are first dipped in the mixture of flour and water. Leave a spot free to fill the pinata with sweets later.
- Let the balloon dry for 24 hours. If necessary, cover the balloon again with newspaper.
- Prick the balloon with a needle.
- Make two holes at the top of the paper mesh and pull the rope through it. So you can hang your Pinata.
- Take blue paper and cover with it the fish fins and the fishtail.
- Take two crepe paper strips and cut 1 cm (as shown in the picture above) perpendicular lines. Cut the lines to about 2 cm below the top edge.
- Cover the whole pinata with stripes.
- Cut the eyes and mouth of the fish from black paper and glue them.
- At the end, stick some colorful bows on the bottom of the pinata.
